Mechanical Engineering | Scope and Future in India


Mechanical Engineering has always been considered as an evergreen stream of engineering. With Technological advances, this course is evolving constantly and now also includes advanced subjects like Mechatronics. In the past decade, there was an IT boom hence the focus had shifted to IT and Computer Science streams but Mechanical was still a very popular and dependable stream. The scope is only increasing in amplitude and getting wider!



India is a developing nation and a lot of focus is on manufacturing and infrastructure industries which require graduates from core engineering streams. Hence Mechanical engineering is in great demand again. These days, the amount of opportunities in Mechanical Engineering are increasing exponentially, major push being given by the 'Make in India' campaign', spearheaded by the India Government. Many MNCs are now starting operations in India. Because of this, many Indian companies are also bucking up and expanding their business.

Mechanical engineering has a lot of other advantages. It opens up doors to many other interesting fields such as Aerospace, Auto-mobile, Defence and the Information sector too. Thus, the scope is very wide as you can pursue a career in any of the above mentioned industries after your graduation. Other industries that may be pursued after graduation in Mechanical engineering if you wish to are Steel plants, Power generation industries, Paper and Chemical industries, Banking sector, Railway departments and even the Communication sector. Job profiles are very dynamic and can be curated according to your industry. The Salary package is also decent if you pursue proper training and build your CV constantly.


Another positive add on of a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering is the ease of further study. Mechanical is a solid foundation as you have the liberty to do Masters in any field. In addition to all this, Masters from abroad with a Bachelors in Mechanical is highly appreciated. Students with a B.Tech in mechanical engineering and a strong training based resume will always be in demand in all the above mentioned industries.
